STUDENT SUPPORT ASSISTANT/TEACHING ASSISTANT/CARE ASSISTANT
Purpose of the Job:
To support students in both formal and informal learning environments during the extended school day in order to meet the students physical, learning and social needs.
Main duties and responsibilities;
The role will include a substantial amount of moving and handling and moving and handling procedures have to be adhered to at all times in accordance with training provided.To study towards the completion of the Residential Childcare diploma or the diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 3, if applicable. This will include some study outside working hours.
The list is not exhaustive and may include additional comparable tasks as agreed from time to time with line manager
To maintain a flexible “can do” approach.
Be aware of and pro-actively observe all school policies.
95% of students are in a wheelchair. The use of hoists and other mobilising equipment is a daily occurrence, attending to students personal hygiene needs and feeding some students is the reality of the role. Of course this is not the only thing a candidate would do and it would not be all day, there is a lot of variation in the roles.
The responsibilities of each candidate will depend on the shift they work.
To have someone ‘ready to go’ they need the enhanced adult and child DBS, valid UK passport or documentation proving the right to work in the UK. They will also need Adult and Child safeguarding and Manual Handling evidence.
Shifts do vary and can be very flexible.
07.00am – 14.00pm
08.45am – 16.15pm
16.00pm – 22.00pm
