We are currently seeking for a full time and part time specialist teacher for Autism to begin asap.
Summary of Post
Specialist teacher of children and young people with autism, working as part of an inclusion support service, that works across all mainstream primary and secondary schools in the borough
Responsible for caseload of children with autism in a cluster of schools – role includes new referrals, some direct work, planning, liaison, advice and modelling, training, supporting parents
Multi-agency team of teachers, SLTs and SEN practitioners – very supportive, regular professional supervision and CPD opportunities
Newham -Inclusive East London borough, culturally and linguistically diverse, small but densely populated, good transport links, easy to get around without a car
Central, well equipped office base in East Ham
Experienced teacher of children and young people with autism – across the whole spectrum but especially those with more complex needs as well as higher functioning pupils.
Familiar with a range of specialist approaches/interventions ie Intensive Interaction, Attention Autism, PECS, TEACCH approaches, planning for sensory needs etc.
Knowledge of the SCERTS framework an advantage, but not essential
Experience of working with such pupils in the school setting ie special, additionally resourced, mainstream, outreach
Excellent interpersonal skills and self- organisation skills, to manage working in a range of different setting and with different people over a week
Strong team player who enjoys sharing knowledge and ideas, but can take initiative and work independently where appropriate
