Job Description


I am currently looking for an ASD Teaching assistant to work in a private ASD school, in Camden.

You will need to have SEN/ASD experience and be able to start ASAP. This is a co-educational day school for primary and secondary age children with moderate to complex learning difficulties, including those on the Autistic Spectrum. They cater for children aged from 5 years to 16 years of age.
The school is easy to commute to on public transport, with the nearest station in walking distance.

JOB PURPOSE

 
  • To work with teachers and other pupil support staff to support the learning of pupils (primary and/or secondary) on an individual and small group basis.
     


  YOU WILL NEED;

  • A general understanding of national/foundation stage curriculum

     
  • Some knowledge and skills relating to strategies in working with pupils with Complex Learning Needs

     
  • An interest, motivation and passion for working with special needs children and developing skills to facilitate this

     
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities

     
  • Calm, controlled and effective communication and relate well to all children and adults within the school

     
  • The ability to reflect on own behaviour to ensure teams are strong and working together to meet the needs of all pupils

     
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within this

     
  • A high level of professionalism and the ability to distinguish personal and professional boundaries in school related relationships both in and outside of the school

     

    DUTIES
    • To support individual pupils / small groups of pupils to be able to undertake successfully learning activities in and out of the classroom.

       
    • To support the ability of pupils to develop independent learning skills and improve their literacy and numeracy.

       
    • To promote positive behaviours amongst pupils in line with the schools’s ethos, vision and core values, and encourage them to exercise their own self-discipline.

       
    • To support the use of ICT in learning and help develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use.

       
    • To participate in the planning and evaluation of learning activities with teachers and senior / higher level pupil support staff colleagues and provide feedback on pupil progress and behaviour. 

       
    • To help contribute to the assessment target setting, monitoring and review of pupils and their Personal Learning Plans (PLPs).

       
    • To participate in the school’s Performance Management process and in training and development opportunities.
