English teachers among world's top 10 best paid

Teachers in Luxembourg are paid more than those working in the profession anywhere else in the world, but English teachers rank highly in the latest wages table, coming in at number nine in the top ten.

A recent study warned that there could be a problem with the remuneration teachers in England and Wales receive for their work because it has fallen behind other European nations. However, in a study from The Independent by Statista UK, it was revealed that England comes in at number nine out of the OECD nations surveyed for wages to teachers with at least a decade's experience.

In England, the Telegraph says, teachers who have this level of experience can expect to earn around £30,326, which puts them marginally behind the likes of Denmark and Ireland, which are nearer to £35,000, but ahead of the likes of Norway, New Zealand and Spain, where even experienced teachers are earning less than £30,000.

The highest paid teachers in the study were found to be from the tiny nation of Luxembourg, where someone with ten years of experience in the classroom can earn an impressive £66,441 on average.

This was followed by Germany, quite a way behind Luxembourg with an average wage of £43,791 and Canada with £42,271. Making up the top five were Australia and the Netherlands, both of which posted annual salaries of more than £35,000.
