This course provides a comprehensive overview of fire safety within an educational setting. You will develop an understanding of the fundamental principles of fire safety, including the fire triangle and common causes of fire. The course also explores key fire safety legislation, how to ensure compliance, and how to carry out an effective fire risk assessment.
You will further examine best practice approaches to fire-safe design, learn about the different types of fire extinguishers and their appropriate uses, and understand the importance of having a clear, accessible fire safety plan in place within your school.
This course is divided into four modules.
Module One: Introduction to Fire Safety
This module explores the basic principles of fire and how this knowledge supports effective decision-making when responding to fire-related situations in the workplace.
Module Two: Getting a Fire Risk Assessment Started
This module focuses on how to begin a fire risk assessment, covering fire prevention and protection. It uses practical scenarios and outlines 12 key considerations to support a thorough and effective assessment.
Module Three: Fire Extinguishers
This module examines the different classes of fire and the five main types of fire extinguishers, highlighting which extinguishers are most suitable for each class of fire.
Module Four: Establishing and Maintaining a Fire Safety Plan
This module explores the critical elements of a fire safety plan, including emergency routes and exits, building classifications, door openings, travel distances, fire assembly points, and disabled refuges. It also provides a best practice checklist to support the ongoing maintenance of a fire-safe environment.
