Behaviour Mentor – Alternative Provision (SEMH)

Location: Harlesden, Brent
Full Time | Long Term | Permanent Opportunity

Are you an experienced Behaviour Mentor with a background in SEMH, SEBD, ASD, or behaviour support?

Do you have experience working with young people who display challenging behaviour, have been excluded from mainstream education, or are at risk of exclusion?

An excellent Alternative Provision in Harlesden, Brent is seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join their committed team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support secondary-aged students who require a nurturing, structured, and highly personalised learning environment.

The provision supports students with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), behavioural difficulties, and additional learning needs. Many pupils may have experienced barriers to education and need strong, positive role models to help them re-engage with learning.

The Role

As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with students across KS3 and KS4, providing both classroom and pastoral support. You will help manage behaviour, promote emotional regulation, and encourage positive engagement with education.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students with SEMH, SEBD, ASD, and complex behavioural needs
  • Building strong, positive relationships with young people and staff
  • Providing 1:1 and small group support
  • Assisting with lesson cover and intervention sessions when required
  • Implementing strategies to support behaviour and emotional wellbeing
  • Working alongside teaching staff to adapt activities in line with individual learning plans
  • Supporting pupils with both short-term and long-term learning difficulties
  • Liaising with external professionals, including social workers, educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, and other support services
  • Promoting a safe, stable, and supportive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working within Alternative Provision, SEMH schools, PRUs, or SEN settings
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Experience supporting secondary-aged pupils
  • Knowledge of mental health, trauma-informed practice, and de-escalation strategies
  • Experience covering lessons or leading small groups
  • Team Teach or MAPA training (desirable)
  • A current DBS on the Update Service
  • The ability to remain calm, resilient, and professional in challenging situations

The School Offers

  • A highly supportive and experienced staff team
  • Ongoing professional development and training
  • A positive and purposeful working environment
  • The opportunity to make a genuine impact on the lives of vulnerable young people
  • A long-term role with the potential to become permanent

This is a highly rewarding position for someone passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes.

If you can engage students in a positive and consistent way, this role will be incredibly fulfilling and an excellent addition to your CV.
