Specialist SEND School – Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire

A welcoming and highly regarded specialist school in Aylesbury is seeking a compassionate, enthusiastic and skilled Complex Needs Teacher to join its dedicated and supportive team.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work with children and young people aged 4–19 with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and a range of additional complex needs. Pupils follow highly personalised learning programmes designed to develop communication, independence, social skills and preparation for adulthood.

The Role

As a Complex Needs Teacher, you will:

  • Take responsibility for the learning, progress and wellbeing of all pupils within your class.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, creative and highly differentiated lessons that meet each pupil's individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes.
  • Lead, support and work collaboratively with a team of SEND Teaching Assistants to provide consistently high-quality classroom provision.
  • Deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that promotes communication, functional literacy and numeracy, life skills and independence.
  • Use a range of communication approaches, including AAC, Makaton, PECS and sensory strategies where appropriate.
  • Work closely with therapists, families and other professionals to provide a holistic approach to each pupil's education.
  • Create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment where every pupil is encouraged to achieve their full potential.
  • Promote positive behaviour through proactive, relationship-based approaches.
  • Ensure the highest standards of safeguarding, health and wellbeing are maintained at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or is an Early Career Teacher (ECT) with a passion for SEND.
  • Has experience teaching pupils with Special Educational Needs, particularly those with complex learning needs, SLD, PMLD and/or Autism.
  • Has either Primary or Secondary teaching experience.
  • Can deliver engaging, personalised learning that celebrates every small step of progress.
  • Has excellent communication and teamwork skills and enjoys working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Maintains high expectations and believes every child can succeed with the right support.
  • Demonstrates resilience, patience, empathy and a positive attitude.
  • Is committed to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
  • Is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

What the School Offers

The successful candidate will benefit from:

  • A welcoming, experienced and highly supportive leadership team.
  • Comprehensive induction and ongoing professional development, including specialist SEND training.
  • Opportunities for career progression and leadership development.
  • A collaborative multi-disciplinary environment, working alongside therapists and specialist practitioners.
  • Well-resourced classrooms and excellent facilities.
  • A positive, nurturing school community where staff wellbeing is valued.
  • The opportunity to make a genuine and lasting difference to the lives of children and young people with complex needs.

If you are a passionate and dedicated teacher looking to inspire, support and empower pupils with additional needs, we would love to hear from you.
