Key Stage 3 SEN Teacher (Lower MLD)

Specialist SEND School – Uxbridge, Hillingdon

A welcoming and inclusive specialist school in Uxbridge is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Key Stage 3 SEN Teacher to join its experienced and supportive team.

This is an exciting opportunity to teach a Key Stage 3 class of pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and associated special educational needs. Pupils follow a broad and engaging curriculum that is closely aligned to the National Curriculum, with a strong focus on developing literacy, numeracy, communication, independence and social skills to prepare them for successful progression into Key Stage 4.

The Role

The successful candidate will:

  • Take responsibility for the progress, achievement and wellbeing of all pupils within their Key Stage 3 class.
  • Lead and coordinate a team of SEND Teaching Assistants to deliver high-quality, consistent classroom support.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, well-differentiated lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils with MLD.
  • Deliver a broad curriculum that promotes academic progress alongside personal, social and emotional development.
  • Use a range of adaptive teaching strategies, assessment for learning and targeted interventions to enable every pupil to succeed.
  • Foster pupils' independence, confidence, resilience and positive behaviour for learning.
  • Work collaboratively with families and multi-disciplinary professionals to support pupils in achieving their EHCP outcomes.
  • Create a safe, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment where pupils feel valued and motivated to learn.
  • Ensure the highest standards of safeguarding, wellbeing and pastoral care at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a teacher who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Has experience teaching pupils with Special Educational Needs, particularly Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), or has a strong interest in SEND.
  • Has either Primary or Secondary teaching experience and is confident adapting learning for pupils working below age-related expectations.
  • Can deliver engaging, high-quality teaching as part of a collaborative classroom team.
  • Understands how to use assessment to inform planning and accelerate pupil progress.
  • Has experience of planning for, or contributing to, Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Maintains high expectations for every pupil and believes all young people can achieve and make meaningful progress.
  • Demonstrates patience, resilience, flexibility and excellent communication skills.
  • Is committed to inclusive education and safeguarding children and young people.

What the School Offers

  • A welcoming, experienced and highly supportive staff team.
  • Excellent professional development and career progression opportunities.
  • The opportunity to make a lasting difference to the educational journey of young people with SEND.
  • A well-resourced and nurturing learning environment.
  • A strong culture of collaboration, inclusion and continuous improvement.

This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate and committed SEND teacher who wants to inspire young people with Moderate Learning Difficulties to achieve their full potential, develop independence and enjoy learning within a supportive specialist setting.
