This course offers a clear and practical overview of safer recruitment and safeguarding practice in education settings. Across four modules, you will explore the legal and professional framework that underpins safeguarding, learn how to plan and manage safe recruitment processes, and develop effective approaches to selecting and inducting staff who uphold safeguarding standards.
You will also consider how to embed and sustain a culture of vigilance that protects children and supports staff in maintaining a safe learning environment. By the end of the course, you will have the knowledge and tools needed to strengthen safeguarding at every stage of recruitment and beyond.
This course is divided into four modules.
Module One: Safeguarding Context, Legislation and Guidance
This module explores the legislation and guidance that underpin safer recruitment procedures. It begins with a refresher on essential safeguarding practices, including the categories of abuse and an overview of offending behaviour. You will also reflect on high-profile cases that highlight the importance of safer recruitment and continue to influence guidance and practice.
Module Two: Planning, Applications and Shortlisting
This module focuses on planning and delivering a safe recruitment process for all appointments. You will explore role design, advertising vacancies, shortlisting candidates, and ensuring a consistent, thorough, and fair process for all applicants.
Module Three: Selection, Appointment and Induction
This module examines strategies to help you select candidates with the right skills, knowledge, and experience, while ensuring they align with safeguarding policies and practices. The focus is on appointing staff who help create safe environments where children can learn, achieve, and thrive.
Module Four: Developing and Sustaining a Safe Environment and Culture of Vigilance
This module explores how education settings can maintain continuous vigilance and create environments that deter and prevent abuse. You will look at practical strategies for challenging inappropriate behaviour and developing a strong, sustainable culture of safeguarding.
