This course is designed for educators responsible for planning and delivering lessons or tuition sessions. It provides an opportunity to reflect on why the opening moments of learning are so important, while sharing practical, quick, and effective activities that support a strong start to lessons.
Across two modules, you will explore what makes an effective lesson opening and gain a range of simple techniques that can be used to engage learners and set clear expectations from the outset.
Module One
This module explores what happens at the start of lessons and why this phase of teaching is so important. You will consider what a strong lesson opening looks like, why the start of learning matters to both educators and pupils, and the differences between starter activities and routines. The module also examines how learning objectives and outcomes fit into the opening of a lesson or tuition session.
Module Two
This module introduces a range of practical starter techniques designed to engage learners and get learning off to a positive and purposeful start.
