Maths Teacher – Alternative Provision – Brent

Alternative Provision (Secondary)

We are seeking a committed, resilient and experienced Maths Teacher to join a well-established Alternative Provision in Brent, supporting students across KS3 and KS4 who present with complex behavioural needs and SEMH challenges.

This Maths Teacher role is a temp-to-perm opportunity, ideal for a practitioner who is confident working with pupils who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education and who require consistent, calm and structured teaching approaches. The successful Maths Teacher will understand the importance of relationship-led practice and strong behaviour management when supporting learners with complex needs.

About the Role

As a Maths Teacher, you will deliver GCSE Maths and Functional Skills Maths to small classes of no more than 6–8 students. Pupils attending this provision may present with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, trauma-related needs, or disrupted educational backgrounds.

The successful Maths Teacher will be confident adapting the curriculum, maintaining clear expectations, and creating a safe and structured learning environment that supports both academic progress and emotional regulation.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity for a Maths Teacher who is passionate about re-engaging learners and making a meaningful impact on young people who need additional support to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated Maths lessons for KS3 and KS4 pupils

  • Deliver GCSE and Functional Skills Maths within small-group settings

  • Manage and support students with complex behavioural needs and SEMH challenges

  • Use trauma-informed and restorative approaches to behaviour and learning

  • Build strong relationships that promote trust, engagement and positive outcomes

  • Work collaboratively with pastoral teams, behaviour mentors, and SEN specialists

  • Monitor pupil progress and implement targeted interventions to support attainment

  • Promote resilience, confidence, and positive attitudes to learning

About You

  • Qualified Maths Teacher (QTS or equivalent)

  • Strong subject knowledge with experience delivering GCSE Maths and/or Functional Skills

  • Proven experience supporting students with complex behaviour or SEMH needs

  • Confident using de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour support

  • Patient, adaptable, and emotionally resilient

  • Passionate about inclusive education and improving life chances for vulnerable learners

Experience working in an Alternative Provision, PRU, SEMH school, or specialist setting is highly desirable.

What the Setting Offers

  • Small class sizes allowing meaningful relationships with pupils

  • A structured behaviour framework with strong pastoral support

  • A specialist Alternative Provision environment designed to meet complex needs

  • Ongoing CPD and specialist training in behaviour and SEMH

  • A supportive leadership team committed to staff wellbeing and pupil success

  • Opportunities for long-term development and permanent employment
