We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Design Technology Teacher to join a specialist school in Princes Risborough (HP27), supporting students aged 11–18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and a range of additional needs.

This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and adaptable Design Technology Teacher to deliver engaging, practical and highly personalised lessons that help students develop their confidence, independence and practical skills.

About the Role

As a Design Technology Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging, practical and differentiated lessons that are accessible to students with a range of abilities and additional needs.

Key Responsibilities

As a Design Technology Teacher, you will:

• Plan and deliver engaging and practical DT lessons for students aged 11–18.
• Adapt lessons and resources to meet the individual needs, abilities and learning styles of students.
• Teach a range of practical and creative DT skills, encouraging students to develop independence and confidence.
• Create a safe, structured and engaging practical learning environment.
• Use practical projects and hands-on activities to promote creativity, problem-solving and critical thinking.
• Monitor, assess and record student progress, identifying appropriate next steps.
• Develop personalised learning opportunities for students with SEMH and additional needs.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with students and promote positive behaviour.
• Support students to develop transferable skills, including teamwork, communication, organisation and independence.
• Work closely with Teaching Assistants and support staff to ensure consistent and effective provision.
• Contribute to EHCP outcomes and individual learning plans where appropriate.
• Maintain high expectations while recognising and celebrating individual achievements.
• Contribute to school meetings, training, professional development and the wider life of the school.
• Ensure appropriate health and safety procedures are followed during practical lessons.

About You

The successful Design Technology Teacher will have:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
• A relevant qualification or strong subject knowledge in Design Technology.
• Experience teaching DT at secondary level is desirable.
• Experience working with students with SEND, SEMH or additional needs is desirable.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• The ability to differentiate and adapt lessons to meet a range of learning needs.
• A creative, practical and engaging approach to teaching.
• A patient, calm, resilient and compassionate approach.
• The ability to build strong and trusting relationships with students.
• A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and promoting positive outcomes for every learner.
• Strong awareness of health and safety within a practical learning environment.
